OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether change in concentrations over time of aggrecanase generated ARGS-aggrecan in synovial fluid (SF ARGS) associates with progression of radiographic knee Osteoarthritis (OA) and patient-reported outcome in subjects with previous meniscectomy. METHODS: We studied 141 subjects at two time points after meniscectomy. Time point A was on average 18years after meniscecto

Objective: To examine the intertester reliability of the three activities of the Cumulated Ambulation Score (CAS) and the total CAS, and to define limits for the smallest change in basic mobility that indicates a real change in patients with hip fracture.Design: An intertester reliability study.Setting: An acute 20-bed orthopaedic hip fracture unit.Subjects: Fifty consecutive patients with a media

We analyzed 34 cases of urothelial carcinomas by miRNA, mRNA and genomic profiling. Unsupervised hierarchical clustering using expression information for 300 miRNAs produced 3 major clusters of tumors corresponding to Ta, T1 and T2-T3 tumors, respectively. A subsequent SAM analysis identified 51 miRNAs that discriminated the 3 pathological subtypes. A score based on the expression levels of the 51

The Gq-coupled 5-hydroxytryptamine 2B (5-HT2B) receptor is known to regulate the proliferation of islet beta cells during pregnancy. However, the role of serotonin in the control of insulin release is still controversial. The aim of the present study was to explore the role of the 5-HT2B receptor in the regulation of insulin secretion in mouse and human islets, as well as in clonal INS-1(832/13) c

Abstract SETTING: Sweden under transition from high to low tuberculosis (TB) incidence from 1920 to 2009. OBJECTIVE: To correlate estimates of TB infection in birth cohorts with the longitudinal incidence of active TB to assess the long-term risk and time pattern of reactivated TB. DESIGN: Time trend analysis on TB incidence using age-cohort modelling. RESULTS: The overall TB incidence decrease

Recent developments in the treatment of acute pancreatitis have focused on the importance of early determination of the severity of an attack. Measuring levels of activation peptides from pancreatic proenzymes seems to be one way to predict severity. Levels of the activation peptide from procarboxypeptidase B, in both serum and urine on admission, have been shown to correlate to the outcome. To be

Aims: Recently, drug-eluting balloons have received a guideline class IIa recommendation in the treatment of in-stent restenosis after bare metal stent implantation. It is not known if different balloons perform equally. Using a large real world registry, restenosis frequency was reported for two drug-eluting balloons. Methods and results: From April 2009 until September 2011, 1,129 patients w

Aims: Cube copying measures visuospatial ability, which is often impaired in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Cube copying was examined as an evaluation of cholinesterase inhibitor (ChEI) treatment in AD. Methods: Eighty-five ChEI-treated AD patients were included. Cube drawings made at prebaseline, baseline, 6 months, and 12 months were assessed. Cube drawings from 56 healthy individuals were also exami

Previous publications have shown a high diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of three short clinical rating scales for Alzheimer's disease (AD), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and vascular dementia (VaD) validated against neuropathological (NP) diagnoses. In this study, the aim was to perform an exploratory factor analysis of the items in these clinical rating scales. The study included 190 pati

We have previously proposed the use of Doppler ultrasound to noninvasively stage a sinus infection. In this study, we first investigated the acoustic properties of nonpurulent and mucopurulent sinus secretions. The density, viscosity, speed of sound and attenuation of 18 samples of sinus fluid were examined. We then assessed the safety of the method by determining the temperature increase when ult

Recently, there has been an increased focus on finance as a form of control in corporations. In this paper, we explore financialization as an employee control strategy in a Big Four accountancy firm, and more specifically how it affects the everyday lives of the professionals within the firm. Upon ingestion, probiotics may act to protect the host through a number of protective mechanisms including modulation of genes involved in intestinal innate mucosal defense such as epithelial cell derived mucin glycoproteins and inhibitor of apoptosis proteins. To determine the specificity of effect and sustainability of response in vivo, Lactobacillus plantarum 299v (Lp299v), Lactobacillus rhamno

A pathology typical of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) has been demonstrated to increase mortality to a greater extent than the pathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, mortality in DLB has also been shown to increase with concomitant AD pathology. Furthermore, in a recent publication, we showed that there is a robust and specific increase in CSF calcium and magnesium in DLB patients compar
