The environmental problems caused by human interventions, such as the consumption of non-renewable resources and the emission of greenhouse gases are well-recognised. Calls have been made for immediate measures to develop more sustainable society worldwide. Attention has also been devoted to the quest for sustainability within the field of chemistry. The concept of “green chemistry” is being intro

Most approaches to arterial spin labelling (ASL) data analysis aim to provide a quantitative measure of the cerebral blood flow (CBF). This study, however, focuses on the measurement of the transfer time of blood water through the capillaries to the parenchyma (referred to as the capillary transfer time, CTT) as an alternative parameter to characterise the haemodynamics of the system. The method e

Background: The use of tumour necrosis factor (TNF) blocking agents in psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is increasing, and the SSATG register has followed patients with PsA for more than 5 years. The aim of the present work therefore was to present efficacy and tolerability data of TNF-blocking agents on PsA in clinical practice, and to study potential predictors for drug survival (the length of time a p

Organic solar cells made of polymers are an attractive alternative to the conventional solar cells which are commercially used today. The polymer solar cell is cheap to produce, due to the high absorption coefficients which limits the needed thickness of the material and due to the simple manufacturing process, which doesn’t demand high temperatures. However, the efficiencies of polymer solar cell

The main ambition of companies is to deliver products (or services) to customers successfully in order to remain competitive. This requires an efficient and effective product development process, as well as cost reductions and higher service levels through improved logistics performance in the supply chain. Traditionally, these two areas, i.e. product development and logistics, have been treated s

Nematode-trapping fungi are soil-living organisms that have the ability to form infection structures, traps to capture nematodes. Many nematode species are parasites on plants and animals, which have resulted in an interest to use the nematode-trapping fungi as biological control agents. In order to understand more about the genomic diversity and evolution of parasitism among these fungi, several

BACKGROUND: Salmonella enterica serotype Enteritidis (SE) is considered to be one of the most potent pathogenic Salmonella serotypes causing food-borne disease in humans. Since a live bacterial vaccine based on surface display of antigens has many advantages over traditional vaccines, we have studied the surface display of the SE antigenic proteins, H:gm and SefA in Escherichia coli by the β-autot

The modern shower was invented in the middle of the 19th century and is by far the most popular personal cleaning method in the west. One of the shortcomings of the conventional shower is that a majority of the water consumed is not dirty but goes out the drain all the same. Orbital systems AB has developed a recirculating shower as a modern and environmentally friendly alternative to the conventi

In situ X-ray reciprocal space mapping was performed during the interval heating and cooling of InGaN/GaN quantum wells (QWs) grown via metal–organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). Our detailed in situ X-ray analysis enabled us to track changes in the peak intensities and radial and angular broadenings of the reflection. By simulating the radial diffraction profiles recorded during the thermal cycle

Popular Abstract in English This thesis concerns experiments of heat transfer in a rectangular channel with ribs and an obstacle. Liquid crystal thermography (LCT) is used to record the temperature fields in the experiments. LCT is based on measurement of the color response of a heated surface. When illuminated with a white light, the liquid crystals react to temperature changes by changing color,This thesis presents experimental investigations of local heat transfer in a rectangular channel (aspect ratio AR = 4) with continuous transverse ribs as well as an obstacle. Liquid crystal thermography (LCT) is employed to obtain the temperature fields in the heat transfer experiments. The liquid crystal applied here has a red start at 35°C and a bandwidth of 1°C. The work consists of (1) periodi

The international organization OECD has developed a comprehensive action plan, the BEPS project, which aims to prevent national tax bases to erode due to that multinational companies allocate taxable profits in countries with low tax rates. Cross-border intra-group transactions is a predominant method to achieve the desired profit allocation. Transfer pricing rules are therefore a central part of

LP3 Annual Report 2021

The “new” Lund Protein Production Platform (LP3) was created as a centre in June 2016 by the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Engineering, by combining the “old” LP3, which specialised in protein production, with the Lund University protein crystallisation facility. In 2021, LP3 continued to deliver projects to its users at the maximum of its capacities and as much as

Popular Abstract in Swedish Ett glas mjölk innehåller ungefär tusen miljarder små oljedroppar. Varje droppe är en tusendels millimeter stor. Dropparna är suspenderade i en blandning av vatten, proteiner och lösta molekyler. Små droppar av olja i vatten brukar kallas emulsioner. Emulsioner är vanliga beståndsdelar i livsmedel och finns exempelvis i allehanda mjölkprodukter, såser, smeter och dressiDifferent approaches and sub-models for the modelling of emulsification in a high-pressure homogenizer are reviewed and compared in terms of both practical aspects and how well they describe what is currently known on the emulsification process in general and on high-pressure homogenization in particular. Special effort is devoted to comparing the model developments presented in the appended paper
