Synthesis of novel C7-modified sialic acids
Sialic acids are a group of 9-carbon carbohydrates abundant in humans, where they can be found on the surface of all cell types. They play an important role in biological signaling and therefore numerous physiological and pathophysiological processes. Some pathogenic bacteria are able to use the sialic acid of its host, which they uptake through transporters in their membrane, as an energy source
