A total synthesis of transtaganolide E and F, proposed intermediates in the biosynthesis of the potent transtaganolides, including an Ireland-Claisen rearrangement and a high-pressure intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction of an unactivated 2-pyrone derivative, is reported.
