Policy as normative influence? On the relationship between parental leave policy and social norms in gender division of childcare across 48 countries

In the present work, we addressed the relationship between parental leave policies and social norms. Using a pre-registered, cross-national approach, we examined the relationship between parental leave policies and the perception of social norms for the gender division of childcare. In this study, 19,259 students (11,924 women) from 48 countries indicated the degree to which they believe childcare

State-of-the-Art and Future Directions in Structural Proteomics

Structural proteomics has undergone a profound transformation, driven by the convergence of advanced experimental methodologies and computational innovations. Cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS)-based approaches, including cross-linking MS (XL-MS), hydrogen-deuterium exchange MS (HDX-MS), and limited proteolysis MS (LiP-MS), now enable unprecedented insights into protein topology, conformational d

Summary Background Data: In 2022, the International Study Group for Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS) defined post-pancreatectomy acute pancreatitis (PPAP) and recommended a prospective validation of its diagnostic criteria and grading system. Methods: This was a prospective, international, multicente

Low-Profile Wideband Metasurface Antenna With Polarization Reconfiguration via Resistor Control and Reduced RCS for Enhanced Wireless Communication

This paper presents a low-profile, single-layer, broadband, polarization-reconfigurable metasurface antenna with a low radar cross section (RCS). The design leverages characteristic mode analysis (CMA) applied to a staggered elliptical-shaped unit cell metasurface. The unique arrangement of the elliptical-shaped elements, oriented at 90°, promotes mode fusion through CMA, effectively reducing RCS.

ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF SEQUENCES OF THE FORM (qny)

We study the distribution of sequences of the form (qny)∞n=1, where (qn)∞n=1 is some increasing sequence of integers. In particular, we study the Lebesgue measure and find bounds on the Hausdorff dimension of the set of points γ ∈ [0, 1) which are well approximated by points in the sequence (qny)∞n=1. The bounds on Hausdorff dimension are valid for almost every y in the support of a measure of pos

Assimilating multi-site eddy-covariance data to calibrate the wetland CH4 emission module in a terrestrial ecosystem model

In this study, we use a data assimilation framework based on the adaptive Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm to constrain process parameters in LPJ-GUESS model using CH4 eddy-covariance flux observations from 14 different natural boreal, temperate, and arctic wetlands. The objective is to derive a single set of calibrated parameter values. The calibrated parameter values are then used in th

Photoinduced Hydrogen Evolution Catalyzed by Co(II) Complexes of N5-Donor Ligands

Three new cobalt complexes of the general formula [Co(II)(L)(CH3CN)]2+, where L is one of three pentadentate nitrogen-donor ligands based on the N4Py framework, have been synthesized and characterized. The capacity of the three complexes to effect photocatalytic proton reduction has been examined. Their photocatalytic activities in the presence of [Ru(bpy)3]2+, acting as a photosensitizer, and asc

BEYOND THE FLÂNEUR AND THE PILGRIM : REFLECTIONS ON THE URBAN ART OF MEMORY

Urbanity is primarily a term for experiencing the city, and urban experience is very much about memory. Since urban meaning, as perceptual meaning generally, is not predominantly made up of signs, other notions of meaning, such as extended cognition or exogram, introduced by cognitive science, affordance, as in Gibsonean psychology, and sedimentation, in the sense of Husserl, are tried out, and fo

Timing of Adjuvant Chemotherapy After Surgical Resection for Non-small Cell Lung Cancer : A Target Trial Emulation Using Nationwide Swedish Registry Data

Background: We investigated the impact of time to adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) on survival after surgical resection (<8 weeks or 8–16 weeks) for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by applying a target-trial emulation. Material and Methods: We used Swedish population-based healthcare registries to emulate a hypothetical target trial, with treatment arms of ‘initiate AC <8 weeks postoper

Plug-And-Play Algorithm Coupled with Low-Rank Quadratic Envelope Regularization for Compressive Spectral Imaging

This paper introduces a plug-and-play algorithm for enhancing compressive spectral imaging (CSI) through the integration of both a quadratic envelope (QE) regularizer and a deep prior. Our method employs the QE-based regularizer to foster a low-rank structure in conjunction with deep priors, synergistically integrated within a Plug-and-Play (PnP) framework. The distinct advantage of our chosen QE-

Minimizing post-harvest waste of mango in rural Mozambique—The effect of different solar setups in mango drying

Four solar dryers were tested for dehydrating mango slices. The design of the dryers included setups allowing direct exposure of the fruit to the sun, with fans (DF) or without fans (DnoF), as well as setups that provided shade to the fruits, with fans (IF) and without fans (InoF). Mango slices dried in the open sun (OS) were used as a control. Parameters measured included air temperature, humidit

Exploring Time-Domain Femtosecond Rotational Coherent Raman Scattering for Diagnostics

The diagnostic potential of femtosecond (fs) rotational coherent Raman scattering (RCRS) in the time domain is initially investigated. While RCRS concepts in the spectral domain obtain species selectivity and temperature sensitivity by resolving the spectral shape, mainly reflecting the Boltzmann-distributed, rotational populations of the Raman-active molecules present, the current time-domain fs-

Tundra cryogenic land surface processes and CO2-C balance in sub-Arctic alpine environment withstand winter and spring warming

Cryogenic land surface processes (CLSPs), such as cryoturbation, are currently active in landscapes covering 25% of our planet where they dictate key functions, such as carbon (C) cycling, and maintain patterned landscape features. While CLSPs are expected to diminish in the near future due to milder winters especially in the southern parts of the Arctic, the shifts in C cycling in these landscape

Switching from Cash to Cashless Payments during the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond

Using a survey of 5,504 respondents from 22 European countries, we examine preferences regarding cash and cashless payments at the point of sale (POS) during the COVID-19 crisis. Consumers favor cashless transactions when they believe that handling cash presents a higher risk of infection. Moreover, the habits they develop during periods of restrictions and lockdowns appear to further diminish the

Developing Equitable Maritime Spatial Planning in the EU : Case Studies from Portugal and Norway

Policy Highlights To achieve the recommendation stated in the title, we propose the following: • Maritime spatial planning (MSP) is a mandated approach set forth by the EU to develop a common framework to manage maritime spaces. MSP helps to bring together the perspectives of diverse stakeholders, although challenges exist to ensure it equitably reflects their needs and concerns. The Portuguese ca

Decentralized Multi-Antenna Architectures with Unitary Constraints

The increase in the number of base station (BS) antennas calls for efficient solutions to deal with the increased interconnection bandwidth and processing complexity of traditional centralized approaches. Decentralized approaches are thus gaining momentum, since they achieve important reductions in data/processing volume by preprocessing the received signals before forwarding them to a central nod

A brief introduction to research ethics

Science is a gigantic network of search for knowledge, where researchers set up and test hypotheses, and the results are made available to other researchers, mainly through publications. The outcome of the subsequent discussion defines the current standing of scientific knowledge.
