Specialist psychiatric health care utilization among older people with intellectual disability – predictors and comparisons with the general population: a national register study

People with intellectual disability (ID) face considerable barriers to accessing psychiatric health care, thus there is a risk for health disparity. The aims of the present study were 1) to compare specialist psychiatric health care utilization among older people with ID to that with their age peers in the general population, taking into account demographic factors and co-morbidities associated wi

Risk factors for dropped nucleus in cataract surgery as reflected by the European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery

Data from the European Registry of Quality Outcomes for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (EUREQUO) were analyzed. The EUREQUO contains preoperative baseline, intraoperative, and follow-up data. Intraoperative data include dropped nucleus as a complication. Baseline data such as demographic data, ocular comorbidities, surgical difficulties, and visual and refractive outcomes were tested for associat

Validity of state cancer registry treatment information for adolescent and young adult women

Population-based cancer registries collect information on first course of treatment that may be utilized in research on cancer care quality, yet few studies have investigated the validity of this information. We examined the accuracy and completeness of registry-based treatment information in a cohort of adolescent and young adult women. New publication in Cancer Epidemiology

Patients’ Experiences With a Digital Primary Health Care Concept Using Written Dialogues: A Pilot Study

The changing health care environment promotes the adoption of new information technologies to connect patients and health care providers. However, individuals greatly vary in their ability to use new digital systems, and in their feelings regarding integrity and validation. Caregivers in southern Sweden plan to implement a new digital primary health care (DPHC) service, and patients’ experiences m

Patient-reported outcome after oncoplastic breast surgery compared with conventional breast-conserving surgery in breast cancer

Oncoplastic breast surgery (OBS) has developed as an extension of breast-conserving surgery (BCS) in an effort to improve esthetic and functional outcome following surgery for breast cancer. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the possible benefits of OBS, as compared with BCS, with regard to health-related quality of life (HRQoL), using patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Establishment of a road traffic trauma registry for northern Sri Lanka

Road traffic injuries are a neglected global public health problem. Over 1.25 million people are killed each year, and middle- income countries, which are motorising rapidly, are the hardest hit. Sri Lanka is dealing with an injury- related healthcare crisis, with a recent 85% increase in road traffic fatality rates. Road traffic crashes now account for 25 000 injuries annually and 10 deaths daily

Examining the Process of Modal Choice for Everyday Travel Among Older People

Modal choice is a prominent concept within transport studies. However, the term is often used quite loosely, with little known about the factors lying behind the choice, the alternatives available to a person, and whether the person had a ‘choice’ to begin with. This study draws on a travel survey among older people living in Sweden’s large metropolitan regions. The questions posed as part of this

Plasma P-tau181 in Alzheimer’s disease: relationship to other biomarkers, differential diagnosis, neuropathology and longitudinal progression to Alzheimer’s dementia

Plasma phosphorylated tau181 (P-tau181) might be increased in Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but its usefulness for differential diagnosis and prognosis is unclear. We studied plasma P-tau181 in three cohorts, with a total of 589 individuals, including cognitively unimpaired participants and patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), AD dementia and non-AD neurodegenerative diseases. Plasma P-tau18

Beta-blocker therapy and risk of vascular dementia: A population-based prospective study.

There are a few studies that report cognitive impairment as a complication of treatment with beta- blockers. We aimed to evaluate the longitudinal association between use of beta-blockers, as a class, and incident risk of all-cause dementia, vascular dementia, Alzheimer's and mixed dementia in the prospective population-based Malmö Preventive Project. We included 18,063 individuals (mean age 68.2,

Cardiovascular effects of severe late-onset preeclampsia are reversed within six months postpartum.

Preeclampsia (PE) is a common pregnancy-related disorder associated with cardiovascular long-term disease. Eighty percent are late-onset PE, occurring after 34 gestational weeks, and can present with severe symptoms. Magnitude and reversibility rate of maternal cardiovascular changes after severe late-onset PE have not been characterized. This study therefore evaluated longitudinal dynamics of mat

Ovarian cancer subtypes and survival in relation to three comprehensive imaging parameters.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is usually detected in late clinical stages, and imaging at diagnosis is crucial. Peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) and cardio phrenic lymph nodes (CPLN) are pathological findings of computed tomography (CT) and are relevant for surgical planning. Furthermore, mammographic breast density (BD) has shown an association with OC risk and might be prognostically relevant. However, it i
