Evaluation of Different Irrigation Treatments with Saline Water in a Future Climate in Tunisia
Water scarcity and salinization of arable land in Tunisia are forcing the largest water user, the irrigation sector, to modernize and increase its efficiency. This study evaluated the impact of deficit irrigation with saline water in a sandy loam soil cultivated with potatoes in northern Tunisia. The evaluation considered soil salinization and irrigation water productivity in a changing climate by

Unilateral ex vivo gene therapy by GDNF in epileptic rats
Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common type of epilepsy in adults. This neurological disorder is characterized by focal seizures originating in the temporal lobe, often with secondary generalization. A variety of pharmacological treatments exist for patients suffering from focal seizures, but systemically administered drugs offer only symptomatic relief and frequently cause unwanted side
Total Description of Intrinsic Amphiphile Aggregation : Calorimetry Study and Molecular Probing
Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) is an apt tool for a total thermodynamic description of self-assembly of atypical amphiphiles such as anionic boron cluster compounds (COSAN) in water. Global fitting of ITC enthalpograms reveals remarkable features that differentiate COSAN from classical amphiphiles: (i) strong enthalpy and weak entropy contribution to the free energy of aggregation, (ii) lo

Comparison of the Accuracy of the Novel PrisMax Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy System to the Classic Prismaflex System
Background/Aims: We assessed how the novel PrisMax continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) system performed in an international multicentre setting. The system has multiple novel tools aiming to increase accuracy and dose delivery. Methods: Data was prospectively collected from 7 intensive care units in 6 countries. The PrisMax device data logs constituted the raw material and last generation

rhIGF-1/rhIGFBP-3 in Preterm Infants : A Phase 2 Randomized Controlled Trial
Objective: To investigate recombinant human insulin-like growth factor 1 complexed with its binding protein (rhIGF-1/rhIGFBP-3) for the prevention of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and other complications of prematurity among extremely preterm infants. Study design: This phase 2 trial was conducted from September 2014 to March 2016. Infants born at a gestational age of 230/7 weeks to 276/7 weeks
Country Reporting on the Sustainable Development Goals—The Politics of Performance Review at the Global-National Nexus
With the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), debates on governance through goal-setting and performance review have gained momentum. In this article, we explore how the politics of performance review played out in public sustainable development reporting at the global-national nexus. A Platform Society
This chapter seeks to define the developing platform economy from a societal perspective, including the aspect of proprietorship, which forms a challenge both regarding transparency and accountability, but also fundamental aspects of datafication, scalability, automation, centralisation, and commercialisation. The societal effects of a few platform-based corporations (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazo

Achieving the SDGs through interdisciplinary research in global health
The Swedish Global Health Research Conference held in Stockholm, 18–19 April 2018, convened researchers from across Sweden’s universities to foster collaboration and new research. In response to the theme of the conference, How can Sweden contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals? From research to action, many of the plenary and keynote speakers highlighted the importance of interdisciplinar
Unequal poverty and equal industrialisation: Finnish wealth, 1750–1900
We present the first comprehensive, long-run estimates of Finnish wealth and its distribution from 1750 to 1900. Using wealth data from 17,279 probate inventories, we show that Finland was very unequal between 1750 and 1850; the top decile owned about 90% of total wealth. This means that Finland was more unequal than the much wealthier economies Britain, France and the US, which goes against the c
Does incubation lead to innovation? Evidence from the Swedish incubation program
This report addresses a potentially important effect of incubators, namely their impact on innovation. Using rich individual-level data on CEOs and employees and whether they are inventors (has patented), we can link these individuals to incubator firms and the general population of individuals and firms. In this way, we are able to create a matched sample of treated and controls allowing us to co
A Path for Improving Stroke Recovery. Effects of MEK-ERK1/2 Inhibition
The present thesis aimed to shed more light on the notion of acute inhibition of extracellular-signal regulated kinase (ERK)1/2 pathway as a treatment to improve stroke recovery. Stroke is a major cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, classified as ischemic or hemorrhagic. In ischemic stroke, interruption of blood flow and deprivation of oxygen and glucose activate death signalling pa
