Gadolinium Contrast Agent is of Limited Value for Magnetic Resonance Imaging Assessment of Synovial Hypertrophy in Hemophiliacs.

Purpose: To examine the influence of different doses of gadolinium contrast agent on synovial enhancement, to compare magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of synovial hypertrophy and radiographic joint changes in hemophiliacs, and to investigate the value of gadolinium in MRI assessment of synovial hypertrophy in hemophiliacs using dynamic MRI and MRI scoring. Material and Methods: Twenty-one

Influence of chemical interaction at the lattice-mismatched h-BN/Rh(111) and h-BN/Pt(111) interfaces on the overlayer morphology

The atomic and electronic structure of the lattice-mismatched h-BN/Pt(111) and h-BN/Rh(111) interfaces formed by pyrolitic reactions with vaporized borazine has been studied by low-energy electron diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy, x-ray-absorption spectroscopy, and core-level and valence-band photoemission. It has been found that on Pt(111), h-BN forms a nearly flat monolayer, insignific

Emissions from baled municipal solid waste: I. Methodological approach for investigation of gaseous emissions

This paper presents a methodological approach for the study of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air, emitted during storage of municipal solid waste in bales. Determination of VOCs was based on sampling with adsorbent tubes followed by automated analysis using on-line work-up with a thermal desorption unit directly connected to a gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. Using calculation algorithm

Thionation of bisindole derivatives with P4S10 or elemental sulfur

Thionation reactions of several bisindole derivatives using elemental sulfur or P4S10 in pyridine have been studied, leading to formation of several novel structures. The reaction of indigo or isatin with P4S10 gave the structurally new salt 10, which could be transformed into the ethyl derivative 11. The first example of a thionated indigo derivative, monothioindigo (6), was isolated in low yield

Skådespelaren i handling : Strategier för tanke och kropp

In the thesis, that has its basis in my educational work at Malmö Theatre Academy, I discuss how actors in training solve the problem of embodying the role ? how they, from their ideas, feelings, thoughts and knowledge create the physical actions of the role. My discussion has its basis in how the training in acrobatics can form a sort of model for the strategies needed by the actor to perform on

Cytotoxic terpenoids from Dasyscyphus niveus

Three novel tetracyclic terpenoids, of which two possess potent cytotoxic activities towards various mammalian cell lines, were isolated front extracts of the fermentation broth of the ascomycete Dasayscyphus niveus. The structures of the compounds, named dasyscyphins A-C, were determined with spectroscopic techniques. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

New spectroscopic data on Cd-102

Gamma ray spectroscopy of neutron deficient nuclei close to the doubly magic nucleus Sn-100 has been performed using a heavy-ion reaction and the NORDBALL Ge-detector array. Evaporation residues were identified by means of charged particle and neutron detection. Transitions in 31 different evaporation residues were identified. New results on Cd-102 are presented.

A desorption calorimetric method for use at high water activities

This paper presents a microcalorimetric technique to simultaneously measure water activity and enthalpy of mixing (differential heat of sorption) as functions of composition at high water activities. The instrument consists of a sorption vessel in a double twin microcalorimeter. A sample at high water activity is placed in one chamber of the vessel and an unsaturated salt solution is injected into

Preparation of a crystallizable mRNA-binding fragment of Moorella thermoacetica elongation factor SelB

SelB is a bacterial elongation factor required for the decoding of a UGA stop codon together with a specific mRNA hairpin to selenocysteine. In attempts to crystallize Moorella thermoacetica SelB, a proteolysis process occurred and crystals of a proteolytic fragment were observed. The crystals, which appeared after a year, contained a C-terminal 30 kDa fragment containing the mRNA-binding domain.

Analysis of Btk mutations in patients with X-linked agammaglobulinaemia (XLA) and determination of carrier status in normal female relatives: a nationwide study of Btk deficiency in Greece

Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk) is a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase, critical for B-cell development and function. Mutations that inactivate this kinase were found in families with X-linked agammaglobulinaemia (XLA). In this study the Btk gene was analyzed in 13 registered Greek patients with XLA phenotype originated from 12 unrelated families, in order to provide a definite diagnosis of the XLA. The

När togs lundakanikernas Consuetudines egentligen i bruk. Reflektioner kring texttradering och traditionsförmedling i 1120-talets Lund [with a summary in English]

On the origin, use and dating of the customary of the cathedral chapter of Lund, i.e. the Consuetudines Lundenses. I have argued that the consuetudines were used by the canons from 30 June 1123 at the latest, the day of inauguration of the crypt church. This seems even more plausible as the prototype of the text, i.e. the Consuetudines Marbacenses, were recently antedated. Furthermore, these circu

Test of four different experimental methods to determine sorption isotherms

One important property of materials is their moisture fixation capacity, i.e., their ability to hold moisture at different relative humidities. The sorption isotherm is one of the main input data in moisture diffusion models, and it can also be used to evaluate properties of the microstructure. We have used four different methods to measure the sorption isotherm of sandstone and porous glass. The
