Event-Based Response Time Estimation
Response time is a measure of quality of service in com- puter systems. Estimation techniques, suitable for support systems for mobile phone systems, are explored. These sys- tems are complex queueing systems with large databases. The trac generated by users and system adminstrators changes rapidly, some loads can be measured other cannot. Attempts to capture all details give models that are not s

Iterative Optimal Control of Liquid Slosh in an Industrial Packaging Machine
Presents an iterative approach to optimal control when modeling errors are present. The problem considered is movement of open containers containing liquid in an industrial packaging machine. The goal is to move as fast as possible without too much slosh. There is no measurement of the slosh available in the machine, therefore open loop control via the acceleration reference is the only possibilit

Stochastic Modelling and Analysis of Sub-pixel Edge Detection
Stochastic analysis of edge detectors can be made either by theoretical modeling of the image formation process and the edge detectors or by empirical stochastic analysis of the edge locations. In this paper we study and model the image formation process in detail. In particular the much neglected discretisation process is modelled and taken into account. This makes it possible to define and analy

Children's railway accidents: Causes, consequences, and preventive measures
Railway accidents where children are injured or killed cause sorrow and grief in all those involved. These accidents are more common than often believed. Thus, 29 children and adolescents have been killed or seriously injured on the Swedish railways during the last three years. In this project, children’s and adolescents’ accidents in connection with trains and railways are charted and classified.

Bilder från det frivilliga våldets arenor: verklighet och representation i nya kampsporttävlingar
This essay reflects on the strive for realism and intensified experiences in contemporary forms of Mixed Martial Arts contests. It elaborates on the cultural meaning of violence and on the representation of violence in television versus the experience of real, bodily violence. The main theoretical tools are theories of culture, visuality, masculinity, and violence, developed by Roland Barthes, Geo
