Degradation and Fatigue of Epoxy Impregnated Traction Motors Due to Thermal and Thermal Induced Mechanical Stress : Part I: Thermal Mechanical Simulation of Single Wire due to Evenly Distributed Temperature

The focus of this work is to characterize the mechanical stresses and fatigue along the enameled wire due to thermal expansion. The stresses and fatigue is estimated for a single wire and as a function of evenly distributed temperature. The estimation is based on both analytical equations and 3D Finite Element (FE) model. This characterization of mechanical stresses and fatigue is then used to exa

A multi-case study of agile requirements engineering and the use of test cases as requirements

Context: It is an enigma that agile projects can succeed ‘without requirements’ when weak requirements engineering is a known cause for project failures. While agile development projects often manage well without extensive requirements test cases are commonly viewed as requirements and detailed requirements are documented as test cases. Objective: We have investigated this agile practice of using t

Dielectric Properties Modeling and Measurement of Single Tooth Coil Insulation System under Accelerated Degradation Test

Degradation of electrical machines for traction purposes is important to understand for right-sizing traction system lifetime versus vehicle lifetime. Based on the proposed test specimen and predictive monitoring method, this paper is a continuation of [1] to present the dielectric properties changes, including the AC capacitance and DC leakage current or insulation resistance, during degradation

Review of organizational effects on the outcome of mental health treatments

Objective: As there are theoretical, clinical, and “common sense” reasons to expect a relationship between organizational factors and outcome in clinics providing psychotherapy and other mental health treatments, a review of empirical research in this area was undertaken with the aim of finding empirical evidence for organizational effects. Methods: A structured search for studies on organizationa

Children Develop a Veil of Fairness

Previous research suggests that children develop an increasing concern with fairness over the course of development. Research with adults suggests that the concern with fairness has at least two distinct components: a desire to be fair but also a desire to signal to others that they are fair. We explore whether children’s developing concern with behaving fairly towards others may in part reflect a

Friendship Network in the Classroom: Parents Bias on Peer Effects

We interview both parents and their children enrolled in six primary schools in the district of Treviso (Italy). We study the structural differences between the children network of friends reported by children and the one elicited asking their parents. We find that the parent-reported network has a bias that is consistent with the following explanation: parents expect peer effects on school achiev

Growth of High Material Quality Group III-Antimonide Semiconductor Nanowires by a Naturally Cooling Process

We report on a simple but powerful approach to grow high material quality InSb and GaSb nanowires in a commonly used tube furnace setup. The approach employs a process of stable heating at a high temperature and then cooling down naturally to room temperature with the nanowire growth occurred effectively during the naturally cooling step. As-grown nanowires are analyzed using a scanning electron m

First-time parents' prenatal needs for early parenthood preparation : A systematic review and meta-synthesis of qualitative literature

Objective: contribute to the existing body of knowledge about the specific needs of first-time parents specifically for early parenthood. Method: the databases PubMed, MEDLINE, PSYCINFO, CINAHL, EMBASE, Family Studies Abstracts, and Web of Science, were searched using search terms: prenatal, antenatal, preparation, education, parents, parenthood. The meta-synthesis included 12 articles representin

4D analysis of the microstructural evolution of Si-based electrodes during lithiation : Time-lapse X-ray imaging and digital volume correlation

Silicon is a promising candidate to substitute or complement graphite as anode material in Li-ion batteries due, mainly, to its high energy density. However, the lithiation/delithiation processes of silicon particles are inherently related to drastic volume changes which, within a battery's physically constrained case, can induce significant deformation of the fundamental components of the battery

Managing Medical Emergency Calls

This dissertation is a conversation analytic examination of recurrent practices of interaction in medical emergency calls. The study expands the analytical focus in past research on emergency calls between emergency call operators and callers to pre-hospital emergency care interaction on the phone between nurses, physicians and callers. The investigation is based on ethnographic fieldwork in a Swe

Analysis of the length distribution of amyloid fibrils by centrifugal sedimentation

The aggregation of normally soluble peptides and proteins into amyloid fibrils is a process associated with a wide range of pathological conditions, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. It has become apparent that aggregates of different sizes possess markedly different biological effects, with aggregates of lower relative molecular weight being associated with stronger neurotoxicity. Y

Pyrolysis modeling of PVC and PMMA using a distributed reactivity model

The thermal decomposition kinetics of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was studied by thermogravimetry using non isothermal experiments. A detailed kinetic analysis was done using the isoconversional methods (model-free) (including Friedman, Kissinger-Akhaira-Sunose (KAS) and Kissinger methods) and distributed reactivity model (model-fitting). The overall aim was to

Developing environmentally sustainable logistics. Exploring themes and challenges from a logistics service providers' perspective

The purpose of this paper is to explore themes and challenges in developing environmentally sustainable logistical activities. The approach is explorative with a cross sectional design that takes advantage of ten case studies out of selected logistics service providers (LSPs) operating primarily in the Scandinavian countries. The findings illustrate the major themes by analyzing current and future

Contrasting outcomes of family connections with varying therapeutic intensity in two Swedish treatment centres

Background: A proportion of individuals with pervasive emotion dysregulation or BPD have other severe co-principal diagnoses. In these cases is not uncommon for functioning to be reduced to the extent that living independently is not possible. These individuals can be referred nationally to a residential DBT treatment centre in South Sweden. Because family members of individuals referred nationall
