The Action of Faces and Spaces : An Interactionist Perspective on the Performance of a Lifestyle Enterprise
Taking a performance perspective of entrepreneurship as the point of departure, the social action of entrepreneurship is examined through an interactionist lens. In particular, it applies the micro-sociology of interactionism of Erving Goffman as expounded in his seminal essays ‘On Face-Work’ and ‘The Nature of Deference and Demeanour’. The paper explores entrepreneurship through a case study of a

Widespread and structured distributions of blood parasite haplotypes across a migratory divide of the Swainson's thrush (Catharus ustulatus)
We examined the phylogenetic distribution of cytochrome b haplotypes of the avian blood parasite genera Haemoproteus and Plasmodium across the migratory divide of the Swainson's thrush (Catharus ustulatus) in British Columbia, Canada. From 87 host individuals, we identified 8 parasite haplotypes; 4 of Plasmodium and 4 of Haemoproteus. Six haplotypes were novel; 1 Haemoproteus haplotype was identic
Scrubber liquid recovery in small and medium scale biomass gasification sysyems
Scrubbing is widely used in biomass gasification plants for tar removal. However, the cost of the scrubber liquid and its disposal once used can represent a non-negligible part of the plant operating cost. It is possible to lower this cost by regenerating and reusing the scrubber liquid by removing ash and heavy tars with the help of a centrifuge. Data from the two biomass gasification plants Hort
Returns to Pompeii : Interior space and decoration documented and revived 18th-20th century
This volume presents a series of case studies that trace the ways in which audiences across Europe have attempted to return to Pompeii by emulating its interior decorations since the city’s rediscovery in the mid-eighteenth century. As such, it is about both the impact of Pompeian antiquity on the present and the reception in the present of that antique past, exploring the variety of ways in whichThis volume presents a series of case studies that trace the ways in which audiences across Europe have attempted to return to Pompeii by emulating its interior decorations since the city’s rediscovery in the mid-eighteenth century. Capable to Care? Parenting Support Policies and the Changing Concept of Care
This paper explores the changing meanings and understandings of the concept of care in parenting support policies in Sweden since the 1990s. Caring responsibilities and practices has historically been framed and negotiated within general family policy reforms, comprising universal child allowances and generous parental leave schemes combined with publicly funded childcare, in turn closely related
Genome-wide physical activity interactions in adiposity ― A meta-analysis of 200,452 adults
Physical activity (PA) may modify the genetic effects that give rise to increased risk of obesity. To identify adiposity loci whose effects are modified by PA, we performed genome-wide interaction meta-analyses of BMI and BMI-adjusted waist circumference and waist-hip ratio from up to 200,452 adults of European (n = 180,423) or other ancestry (n = 20,029). We standardized PA by categorizing it int

Human Lipoproteins at Model Cell Membranes : Effect of Lipoprotein Class on Lipid Exchange
High and low density lipoproteins (HDL and LDL) are thought to play vital roles in the onset and development of atherosclerosis; the biggest killer in the western world. Key issues of initial lipoprotein (LP) interactions at cellular membranes need to be addressed including LP deposition and lipid exchange. Here we present a protocol for monitoring the in situ kinetics of lipoprotein deposition an

Electrochemical flow-ELISA for rapid and sensitive determination of microcystin-LR using automated sequential injection system
An amperometric immunoanalysis system based on monoclonal antibodies immobilized on Sepharose beads and packed into a micro-immunocolumn was developed for the quantification of microcystin-LR. Microcystin-LR (MCLR) was used as a reference microcystin variant. Inside the immunocolumn, free microcystins and microcystin-horseradish peroxidase (tracer) were sequentially captured by the immobilized ant
Efter patentutgång för imaChronic myeloid leukemia - a model disease for targeted therapy Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) pioneered as the first human malignancy linked to a specific cytogenetic aberration (the Philadelphia chromosome), which led the way to specific targeted therapies with imatinib (Glivec) and later tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). Continuous TKI administration, blocking the oncogenic fusion protein Bcr-A
Dimethylguanidino valeric acid is a marker of liver fat and predicts diabetes
Unbiased, “nontargeted” metabolite profiling techniques hold considerable promise for biomarker and pathway discovery, in spite of the lack of successful applications to human disease. By integrating nontargeted metabolomics, genetics, and detailed human phenotyping, we identified dimethylguanidino valeric acid (DMGV) as an independent biomarker of CT-defined nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFL
