Automatic Creation of Multilingual Semantic Networks from Wikipedia
This paper describes the automatic creation of semantic networks from Wikipedia. Following Lipczak et al. (2014), we constructed the graphs corresponding to the semantic networks by merging across languages the categories manually assigned by the users. This results in a network of related concepts for each entity of Wikipedia. We used these networks as a component of an entity linking system. the
Numerical Studies of Mixing in Pipes and Static Mixers
The objective of the present work was to investigate the mixing process in static mixers under laminar flow conditions, and in pipes during the displacement of dissimilar liquids. A numerical scheme and a method of characterizing static mixers were developed. The effects of changes in geometry, flow rate, viscosity ratio and volumetric flow rate ratio on the mixing process were investigated using
Tarot : New age i bild och berättelse
In the course of my dissertation work, I have sought knowledge about what New Age is, contains, and conveys by looking at practice and rhetoric, how the participants act and reason regarding their commitment, as well as how the contents of the field is discussed. I have put an emphasis on the small details: the objects, the rituals, and the narrating. Using the tarot cards as a starting point, the

Two Flavors of 4kb Standard-Cell Based Subvt Memory in 65 nm CMOS
Ultra-low power (ULP) biomedical implants and sensor nodes typically require small memories of a few kb, while previous work on reliable subthreshold (sub-VT) memories targets several hundreds of kb. Standard-cell based memories (SCMs) are a straightforward approach to realize robust sub- VT storage arrays and fill the gap of missing sub-VT memory compilers. This paper presents an ultra-low-leakag

Pseudo-Boolean Optimization: Theory and Applications in Vision
Many problems in computer vision, such as stereo, segmentation and denoising can be formulated as pseudo-boolean optimization problems. Over the last decade, graphs cuts have become a standard tool for solving such problems. The last couple of years have seen a great advancement in the methods used to minimize pseudoboolean functions of higher order than quadratic. In this paper, we give an overvi
Reactivity of late transition metal complexes towards CO2 and other electrophiles
In times when dwindling energy resources is a major long-term problem for sustaining modern infrastructure and technologies, we need to focus on more enduring solutions. A key contribution to this achievement is catalysis. In order to further develop the significant advancements gained over the last several decades, a deeper understanding of the catalytic processes has to be sought down to the lev
Kommunala huvudmannastrategier för kostnadspress och utveckling : en studie av kommunal teknik
The aim of the study is to improve the understanding of strategy in politically governed organisations. From the perspective of a specific responsible authority the main purpose of the study is to describe and analyse how strategies emerge and develop. Competitive tendering and inter-municipal co-operation, has been studied as a two principally different strategic approaches to reduce costs and st
Preventive Environmental Strategies in Eastern European Industry: An analysis of donor support for cleaner production
Since 1991 cleaner production projects have been pursued by the donors in Eastern European industry. These projects have aimed at demonstrating the benefits of a preventive approach to environmental protection, and to train people within the industry to perform the cleaner production assessments that constitute the core element of the preventive approach. The large merit of the preventive approach
Kantor Triple Systems
The main purpose of this thesis is to study real exceptional Kantor triple systems. In the first paper we first prove the known results in both the real and complex classical cases of K-simple Kantor triple systems. In the real classical case our approach gives somewhat simpler formulas. Special attention is given to all real classical cases of K-simple Kantor triple systems that can be presented
Facilitating Transitions to Sustainable Tourism - The role of the tour operator
Tourism has become a leading industry in the world and continues to grow rapidly, contributing essentially to economic growth and employment in many countries. Tourism as it looks today poses serious threats to the environment and considerable social and cultural challenges. The problem addressed by this research lies in the weakness of current concepts and practices in pursuit of sustainable tour
Quantum Chaos and Dissipation in Finite Fermi Systems
We address the problem of the dissipative character of collective motion in finite Fermi systems. We study this problem from the point of view of chaotic features of the fermionic degrees of freedom of the many-body Fermi systems. Our main aim is of two kinds: first, we investigate how quantum chaos sets in in many-body systems and then, we try to relate quantum many-body chaos of the intrinsic fe
Acoustical properties of earplugs
In this study an experimental setup for measurements of high impedance objects in ducts, yielding the acoustical Two-Port properties of the object, is applied to earplugs. A frequently used experimental setup for measuring objective acoustical properties of earplugs is that of artificial ears. Great effort is spent on duplicating the human ear. The acoustical properties of the earplug are thought
Resource-Constrained Embedded Control and Computing Systems
This thesis deals with methods for handling resource constraints in embedded control systems and real-time computing systems. By dynamic feedback-based resource scheduling it is possible to achieve adaptability andincreased performance for these systems. A feedback scheduling strategy is presented, which uses feedback from plant states to distribute computing resources optimally among a set of co
Chaebolföretagen - en "omöjlig" konfiguration i den sydkoreanska industrialiseringsprocessen.
The chaebol conglomerates, which constituted the backbone of the "South Korean miracle", became the instrument for economic growth within a framework laid down by the "developmental state". With a minimum of own capital, but with private owner-control and loan-financing, these chaebols were able to expand. How could this "impossible" configuration survive? The thesis analyses how this could contin
