Addressing smoking during pregnancy:The challenge to start from the woman's view

Problemområdet har studerats med olika utgångspunkter; gravida kThe aim of this thesis has been to increase understanding on the process of smoking cessation during pregnancy from the perspective of learning. The smoking pattern before and after pregnancy related to health, Sense of Coherence (SOC) and social issues was studied among all pregnant women in south-east Skåne during the period March 1994 to August 1995. They were asked to fill in a questionnaire d

Enhancement of the immunosuppressive effect of cyclosporin A by ciprofloxacin in a rat cardiac allograft transplanation model

Ciprofloxacin hyperinduces interleukin-2 production in stimulated human and mouse lymphocytes. In this study, an enhanced and prolonged interleukin-2 response was also detected in polyclonally stimulated rat splenocytes in the presence of ciprofloxacin (5–80mgrg/ml) compared to control cells without any antibiotic. Ciprofloxacin was able to counteract the immunosuppressive effect of 10ng/ml cyclos

Captured Countryside? Stability and Change in Sub-national Support for African Incumbent Parties

Many existing accounts of African elections assume that voters base their electoral decisions on cues and incentives that are anchored in highly stable ethnic cleavage structures. Yet several newer contributions to the study of African electoral politics have questioned the ethno-clientelistic voting thesis and highlighted other determinants of vote choice, such as class, ideology and performance

Wave splitting and imbedding equations for a spherically symmetric dispersive medium

The direct problem of time dependent electromagnetic scattering in the dispersive sphere is solved by a wave splitting technique. The electric field is expanded in a series involving vector spherical harmonics, leading to a system of wave equations for each term. These systems are reduced to scalar wave equations for each term, which are solved via reflection operators. Some preliminary numerical

EU climate change litigation: All quiet on the Luxembourgian front?

This chapter demonstrates that EU climate change litigation is concerned with questions about ‘who’ decides the construction and the implementation of EU climate change law, ‘who’ can challenge these legal acts, and before ‘which’ court (between the EU and the national courts) this is adjudicated. The driving force behind these competence-related issues is the EU legal doctrine concerning jurisdic

When Do Rights Matter? A Case Study of the Right to Equal Treatment in Sweden

The discussions in this chapter should be viewed as a limited contribution to the debate on how to introduce the right to equal treatment through legislation. In the coming pages, I shall use a case study to demonstrate the differences between rights which emerge organically from below and work bottom up and rights which are introduce through political pressure from above and work top down. This s
