Trends in food production and consumption: Swedish experiences from environmental and cultural impacts

Changes in Swedish food consumption patterns during recent decades are studied together with some possible future changes of importance for increasing resource efficiency. The increased consumption of meat and a more global food supply have contributed negatively. An increased interface with foreign food cultures through travelling and immigration are the main causes of these consumption changes.

Web Server Performance Modeling using an M/G/1/K*PS Queue

Performance modeling is an important topic in capacity planning and overload control for web servers. We present an M/G/1/K*PS queueing model of a web server. The arrival process of HTTP requests is assumed to be Poissonian and the service discipline is processor sharing. The total number of requests that can be processed at one time is limited to K. We obtain closed form expressions for web serve

Associative Self-Organizing Map

We present a study of a novel variant of the Self-Organizing Map (SOM) called the Associative Self-Organizing Map (A-SOM). The A-SOM is similar to the SOM and thus develops a representation of its input space, but in addition it also learns to associate its activity with the activity of one or several external SOMs. The A-SOM has relevance in e.g. the modelling of expectations in one modality due

Characterization of the Tau parallel kinematic machine for aerospace application

A consortium of interested parties has conducted an experimental characterization of two Tau parallel kinematic machines which were built as a part of the EU-funded project, SMErobot1. Characteristics such as machine stiffness, work envelope, repeatability and accuracy were considered. This paper will present a brief history of the Tau parallel machine, the results of this testing and some comment

Monitoring and influencing safety through safety culture

Organizations need to make sure that their level of safety is acceptable. Therefore it is important to know which factors contribute to the level of safety and how to monitor and improve these factors. One method used today to evaluate the level of safety in organizations is safety culture measurements. In different contexts, different models of safety culture are used. Safety culture is often con
