Self-organization of double-chained and pseudodouble-chained surfactants: counterion and geometry effects
Self-organization in aqueous systems based on ionic surfactants, and their mixtures, can be broadly understood by a balance between the packing properties of the surfactants and double-layer electrostatic interactions. While the equilibrium properties of micellar systems have been extensively studied and are understood, those of bilayer systems are less well characterized. Double-chained and pseud

Improved performance in silicon enzyme microreactors obtained by homogeneous porous silicon carrier matrix
The catalytic performance of porous silicon (PS) micro enzyme reactors (muIMER) is strongly dependent on the PS matrix morphology for enzyme immobilisation. PS was achieved in the muIMER by anodisation in a HF-ethanol mixture. PS etching of structured silicon surfaces commonly results in an inhomogeneous pore formation. The deep channel microreactors described herein have previously suffered from
Appetitive flight patterns of male Agrotis segetum moths over landscape scales
An analysis is presented of the first harmonic radar studies of pheromone-plume locating flights of male Agrotis segetum moths over distances of up to 500m. Upon release most moths flew in a direction having a downwind component. The first significant changes in flight orientations occur in the immediate vicinity of a pheromone source. Moths that were initially flying downwind change course and st
Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition with Water Injection
The use of water injection in a homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine was experimentally investigated. The purpose of this study was to examine whether it is possible to control the ignition timing and slow down the rate of combustion with the use of water injection. The effects of different water flows, air/fuel ratios and inlet pressures were studied for three different fuels, is
Denmark During he Second World War: Exceptio Probat Regulam?
This article deals with the situation in Denmark during the Second World War, reviewing the various revisions which have developed to undercut an entirely heroic reading. The article connects the somewhat ambiguous relationship of Danes to Jews in the interwar period to contemporary issues. In Denmark and elsewhere in Scandinavia, prejudice against Muslims and other immigrant has begun to challeng
In vivo and in vitro intragenomic rearrangement of TT viruses
The in vitro replication of the Torque teno virus (IT virus) tth8 full-length genome and particle formation in a Hodgkin's lymphoma-derived cell line after transfection with cloned viral DNA were demonstrated. Analyses of the transcription patterns of tth8 and tth7 TT virus isolates in a number of lymphoma and T-cell leukemia cell lines indicated differential additional splicing events and intrage
Translating Foreign Ideas into Domestic Practices : Pharmaceutical Policies in Laos and Vietnam
This, in turn, is an indication that policies travel. But why are certain policies imitated while others are not? The author seeks to further our understanding of policy diffusion and its dynamics by investigating how foreign ideas are integrated and translated into new contexts, and how these imported ideas influence national policymaking and

Credit Intelligence in Banks - Managing Credit Relationships with Small Firms
As a consequence, the resources spent on each credit customer have had to be decreased, resulting in less interaction and a perceived limited access to valuable information. This has especially been the case in the banks´credit management of small firms. Earlier research app
Reverse pharmacology and the de-orphanization of 7TM receptors
Approximately 800 genes coding for seven-transmembrane, G-protein-coupled receptors have so far been recognized. In spite of this, many of these receptors are defined by their sequence only, and are therefore classified as orphan receptors. Without knowing what their endogenous ligands are, we lack the information needed to understand their physiological role and hence cannot make use of them as d

Food quality for Daphnia in humic and clear water lakes
1. Growth and reproduction of Daphnia fed lake seston were measured in two categories of meso- to eutrophic lakes differing with respect to terrestrial organic matter influence (humic and clear water lakes). The content of highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFA), P and N, as well as the taxonomical composition of seston were analysed.2. Seston HUFA and C : P ratios were similar between lake categori
Referenstaktiker – konsten att guida i det okända
Reference tactics – the art of guiding in the unknown How can academic librarians overcome the knowledge gap between themselves and library users? As we see it, the gap is generated by the user’s deeper knowledge of the subject topic in comparison to that of the librarian. This knowledge gives the user possibilities of handling certain premises attached to the subject and also of seeing how sub-to

Holocene environmental history of Lake Vuolep Njakajaure (Abisko National Park, Northern Sweden) reconstructed using biological proxy indicators
Holocene environmental and climatic changes are reconstructed using analyses of biological proxies in lake sediments from Vuolep Njakajaure, a lake located near the altitudinal treeline in northern Sweden (68 degrees 20' N, 18 degrees 47' E). We analysed biological proxy indicators from both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, including diatoms, pollen and chironomid head capsules, in order to rec
