I am a senior lecturer in English literature. I have published on a range of topics, including contemporary novels and nineteenth-century fiction, but my main research interest is in early modern drama. My doctoral thesis, which was defended in 2017 and won the 2019 Warburg prize, dealt with scepticism and belief in the representation of witches and witchcraft in plays of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. A revised version has since been published as a monograph. My second monograph, which was published by Manchester University Press in 2021, is an edition of a late sixteenth-century manuscript which offers a unique insight into elite witchcraft belief dating from the very beginning of the English witchcraft debate.
