Computational study of noise generation and propagation from a wind turbine

The flow and acoustic fields around a wind turbine are computed using a hybrid method. The flow computations reveal the presence of large-scale structures which are convected downstream without significant decay. The strong interaction between the tip vortices and the wind turbine tower is highlighted. The acoustic computations show that the resulting acoustic near-field is dominated by the bla

Film Music in the Lab : Eye Tracking Experiments on Music's Influence on Film Semantics

This paper discusses the possible advantages and disadvantages by using experimental methods in order to understand how music influences our understanding of film narratives. Can experimental and quantitative methods such as eye tracking, questionnaires, galvanic skin response, EEG (electroencephalogram) and fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging – a brain scan) give us insights into the sign

Validation and development of different calculations methods and software packages for fire safety assessment in swedish nuclear power plants

Fire models are used increasingly for fire safety assessment in nuclear power plants. Examples of these fire models are CFD models and zone models. When using these models it is important that they are sufficiently verified and validated. In Sweden the majority of fire safety consultants are using FDS, developed by NIST. The verification and validation of this package is intensively done for a num

Analysis of Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells by an Extended Darcy Model

By using a three dimensional computational method, gas flow and heat transfer have been investigated and analyzed for both cathode / anode ducts of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The Brinkman- Forchheimer-extended Darcy model is employed to investigate the flow inside the porous layer of the duct. Effects of inertial coefficient, together with permeability, effective thermal conductivity, th
