This thesis explores the aesthetic language of natural history collecting in relation to art, by analyzing Kristoffer Palmgren’s bioart piece Superman in a semiotic and discourse analytic context. The artwork itself consists of eight molded fists, overgrown by microbes taken from wild trees. The fists are individually encased in glass boxes that are placed on top of one another.
