There is a circularity problem in Scanlon’s account of promises. Some suggest that this problem can be resolved by incorporating aspects of a social practice view on promises into Scanlon’s framework. I argue that Scanlon’s account can be saved from the circularity problem without relying on this social practice view.
There are signs that an increasing number of people are questioning monogamy and its restrictions on the individual. Should we then view polyamory as more desirable? Or does monogamy possess some sort of special value? I argue that while monogamy may have some special value, we have not defined what that would be, and so polyamory could be seen as more desirable.
