To Create a Sense of Belongings. Christening Gifts as Materialization of Feelings

Christening gifts are on the one hand very concrete and material. They have a value, both economically and emotionally. But on the other hand they also have a function that is neither concrete nor material. They express feelings, hopes, and dreams of belonging and community. The gift has a meaning for both the one who receives it, and the one who presents the gift.

Design of coarse-grained dynamically reconfigurable architecture for DSP applications

This paper presents the design and implementation of a coarse-grained reconfigurable architecture, targeting digital signal processing applications. The proposed architecture is constructed from a mesh of resource cells, containing separated processing and memory elements that communicate via a hybrid interconnect network. Parameterizable design of resource cells enables flexible mapping of arbitr

Assessment of Graft Effects and Function in Cell Replacement Therapy for Parkinson's Disease

Motoriska symptom (skakningar, muskelstelhet, förlångsammade rörelser och balansstörningarThis explorative study aimed to apply, develop, and evaluate assessment methods at various levels in cell replacement therapy for Parkinson’s disease (PD). Observed motor effects in five grafted patients support that timed motor tasks and clinical ratings of parkinsonism are able to monitor motor function, but their psychometric properties need further attention. Using positron emission tomograp

Low Complexity Real-Time Feature Extraction Using Image Projections

In this paper it is shown how low complexity image projections can be used to replace the much more memory demanding functions morphology and labeling. The image projections are intended to be used in an automatic real-time surveillance system to detect objects and extract features. The projection unit operates directly on the binary motion mask from the segmentation unit and can extract location,

The energetic costs of incubation

This chapter discusses several different aspects of the energy balance and physiological homeostasis of incubating birds, ranging from systematic, geographical and life history related variation in energy costs of incubation, to thermal considerations for birds on the nest, links between energy expenditure and fitness, and non-energetic costs of incubation. Our review of the literature shows that,

Modern asatro : att konstruera etnisk och kulturell identitet

The purpose of the study is to examine contemporary followers of Asatru in Sweden. Central to the study is the way Asatru today can be seen as an ethnic religion. Due to this will the ideas about Asatru as a folk religion among followers and the idea of Asatru as a form of “sed”, a term that can roughly be translated as a form of custom, be explored. Related to the idea of ethnic identity and Asat

Endothelial function during ischemia-reperfusion and effects of inhalation of nitric oxide

Endotelcellerna bildarThe vascular endothelium is an important regulatory organ in circulatory physiology and plays a central role in the response to acute inflammation and ischemia/reperfusion. Activation and dysfunction of the pulmonary vascular endothelium are closely related to clinical findings of pulmonary dysfunction. The endothelial-derived relaxing factor, nitric oxide (NO), is a gas, which can be administered

The packaging selection practice a case study

Purpose of this paper The purpose of this paper is to present a comparative case study of the procedures and guiding principles in the packaging selection practice of two international companies. Design/methodology/approach A qualitative case study with an inductive approach was conducted. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews, documentation, and field visits. Findings Th

Health Effects of Foods Enriched with Cereal beta-Glucans from Cereals

Ett dagligt intag av beta-glukaner från havre eller korn kan sänka kSince soluble fibre in the form of the cereal beta-glucans found in oats and barley has been shown to have a positive effect on lipid and glucose metabolism, people at risk of developing cardiovascular diseases or diabetes might benefit from that a variety of palatable food products containing beta-glucans being available to them. The aim of the papers presented in the thesis was to evaluate the m

Proton-Induced X-Ray Analysis of Steel Surfaces for Microprobe Purposes

A study of the detection limits for the elements with Z = 15-92 in thick target steel surfaces using proton-induced X-ray technique has been performed. Samples were irradiated with a broad proton beam of 2 mm diameter and the X-rays were detected by a Si(Li) detector. Detection limits at levels down to the order of 10 ppm were achieved with simultaneous measurement of several elements. Mylar and
