Rho-Kinase Inhibitor Attenuates Cholestasis-Induced CXC Chemokine Formation, Leukocyte Recruitment, and Hepatocellular Damage in the Liver.

BACKGROUND: In the present experimental study, we analyzed the role of Rho-kinase during obstructive cholestasis by studying the effect of the Rho-kinase inhibitor Y-27632 on hepatic CXC chemokine formation, leukocyte recruitment and hepatocellular damage. MATERIALS AND METHODS: C57BL/6 mice underwent bile duct ligation (BDL) to induce obstructive cholestasis. Mice were pretreated with Y-27632 (1

Pregnancy and fetal outcome in women with primary Sjogren's syndrome compared with women in the general population: a nested case-control study.

Objective. To study pregnancy and fetal outcome in women with primary SS (pSS) compared with women in the general population. Methods. In a nested case-control setting, variables related to pregnancy and fetal outcomes were compared. Cases (n = 16) were identified through registry linkage (Malmö pSS registry and a database entailing information of all pregnancies and deliveries in Malmö from 1990

Harmonic-generation At the Max-lab Undulator - Report of the 1st Results

By the use of coherent harmonic generation photons in the third harmonic of a Nd:YAG laser have been produced. The laser illuminated the electrons inside the permanent magnet undulator at Max-lab, Lund. The generation proved to be stable and the number of emitted photons, the linewidth and the current dependence were measured.

Parental occupation and risk of hospitalization for asthma in children and adolescents.

Our aim was to analyze risk of first hospital diagnosis of asthma in children (< 10 years) and adolescents (10 through 19 years) in Sweden between 1970 and 2004 by parental occupation, controlling for potential confounders. Data from the Multigeneration Register, in which all children born in Sweden from 1932 onward are registered with their parents, were linked to nationwide Hospital Register dat

Relapsed childhood high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia: presence of preleukemic ancestral clones and the secondary nature of microdeletions and RTK-RAS mutations.

Although childhood high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia is associated with a favorable outcome, 20% of patients still relapse. It is important to identify these patients already at diagnosis to ensure proper risk stratification. We have investigated 11 paired diagnostic and relapse samples with single nucleotide polymorphism array and mutation analyses of FLT3, KRAS, NRAS and PTPN11 in o

The applicability of chimney grafts in the aortic arch.

AIM: Proximal fixation is often limiting for thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) and the stent graft may need to cover the origin of the arch branch vessels. Chimney grafts have been proposed to preserve flow into over stented branches during urgent TEVAR. The aim of this report is to share our initial experience of this technique. METHODS: Eleven patients underwent urgent TEVAR combined w

Galectins structure and function--a synopsis

The 20 or so galectins expected to be found in man, and their many possible functional effects promise a rich and fruitful research field in the future. At present, the biomedically most promising areas for use of galectins or their ligands are in inflammation, immunity, and cancer. Many good stories can be formulated, but the field lacks the cohesion of knowing basic galectin function. The only b

Tight budgetary control: a study of clinical department managers' perceptions in Swedish hospitals.

OBJECTIVE: The composition of clinical department managers in Swedish hospitals is changing; more non-doctors and women are entering managerial positions. In parallel, most hospitals face increased pressure to contain costs. This article presents a study of managers' perceptions of tightness of budgetary control and how their views vary systematically with personal characteristics and organization

Explaining the use of an Implementation Methodology in Enterprise Systems Implementation context: a critical realist perspective

Investments in Enterprise Systems (ES) represent a significant part of many organisations’ investments. Time and budget overruns have been more a rule than an exception in ES implementations. One critical success factor for improving ES implementation is Enterprise Systems Implementation Methodologies (ESIMs). There is a lack of research on the use of ESIMs; however, the scant research does show c

Finding a heaviest triangle is no harder than matrix multiplication

We show that for any 0, a maximum-weight triangle in an undirected graph with n vertices and real weights assigned to vertices can be found in time \O(n+n2+), where is the exponent of fastest matrix multiplication algorithm. By the currently best bound on , the running time of our algorithm is \O(n2376). Our algorithm substantially improves the previous time-bounds for this problem recently establ
