Explore how the Italian language has changed over time in different geographic areas. This course deepens your understanding of Italian dialectal variation and historical development.
This course is taught at the master's level. In order to attend, you need to have successfully completed 90 higher education credits in Italian or have equivalent knowledge.
The course gives you an overview of how the Italian language has developed from its Latin roots to Early Modern Italian. You will explore changes in pronunciation, grammar, and writing, as well as how the vocabulary has evolved over time. The course also examines the historical events and periods that influenced these changes.
