Reproductive strategies and liming responses in forest field-layer flora

Liming increased species richness, in accordance with the species pool hypothesis, and number of plants of individual species in beech forest field-layer vegetation, by increasing establishment by seedlings and vegetative offspring. Turnover rates also increased, suggesting the explanatory value of the carousel model. Plant size, absolute measures of reproduction, and poportional measures of sexua

A Two-Front Battle. On the Justification of Empirical Beliefs.

The question of what justifies empirical beliefs is traditionally answered either by reference to basic empirical beliefs that receive justification from something outside of the epistemic subject’s conceptual sphere or by reference to justification through coherence, in the sense that empirical beliefs are justified through their semantic relations to other beliefs. Typical of both kinds of answe

Aktiemarknadsorienteringens ideologi - En studie av en organisations försök att skapa aktieägarvärde, dess styrning och kontroll samt uppgörelse med sitt förflutna

During the last few decades, the belief in the economic benefits of maximization of shareholder value as a principle of corporate governance has spread from its traditional Anglo Saxon strongholds to the rest of Europe and can now be described as an established and dominant ideology in many large corporations. The more influential part of the literature on shareholder value has mainly paid attenti

Aspects of the Duality between Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory and String Theory

This thesis deals with three topics related to the Ads/CFT correspondence. In Paper I, solutions describing the geometry of fractional D1-branes of Type IIB string theory are presented. The running coupling constant is computed on the gauge theory side. Paper II uses the idea that the anomalous dimension of a gauge theory operator can be interpreted as an eigenvalue of a spin chain Hamiltonian.

Aspects on the Regio and Stereo Selectivity in the Hydrolsilylation of 1,3-Dienes

This thesis is a summary of four papers concerning various aspects on the transition metal catalysed hydrosilylation of 1,3-dienes. The hydrosilylation reaction is formally an addition of a hydrosilane to an unsaturated system and depending on the reaction conditions, control of stereo-, regio-, and chemo-selectivity can be achieved. Optically active heterobidentate P,N ligands were synthesised f

Studies of Electrocatalytic Reactions of NADH at Mediator Modified Electrodes and of H2O2 at Peroxidase Modified Electrodes

This thesis addresses: (1) studies of direct and mediated electron transfer and kinetics of peroxidases on electrodes and the development of amperometric peroxidase-based biosenors, (2) electrochemical and kinetic studies of NADH oxidation at mediator modified electrodes. The direct and mediated electron transfer of horseradish and tobacco peroxidase were investigated on graphite electrodes by us

DNA Compaction at Surfaces

The interfacial behavior of DNA and DNA-cationic surfactant has been studied. Particular attention was paid to the type of cationic surfactant and the DNA conformation (single or double stranded) as well as the DNA length. Adsorption of DNA-cationic surfactant complexes is determined by a delicate balance between the DNA-surface, cationic surfactant-surface, and cationic surfactant-DNA-solvent int
