Trend of Socio-Demographic Index and Mortality Estimates in Iran and its Neighbors, 1990-2015 : Findings of the Global Burden of Diseases 2015 Study

BACKGROUND: The Global burden of disease and injuries study (GBD 2015) reports expected measures for years of life lost (YLL) based on socio-demographic index (SDI) of countries, as well as the observed measures. In this extended GBD 2015 report, we reviewed total and cause-specific deaths and YLL for Iran and all its neighboring countries between 1990 and 2015.METHODS: We extracted data from the

Disability-Adjusted Life-Years (DALYs) for 315 Diseases and Injuries and Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE) in Iran and its Neighboring Countries, 1990-2015 : Findings from Global Burden of Disease Study 2015

BACKGROUND: Summary measures of health are essential in making estimates of health status that are comparable across time and place. They can be used for assessing the performance of health systems, informing effective policy making, and monitoring the progress of nations toward achievement of sustainable development goals. The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2015 (GBD

Prevalence and Years Lived with Disability of 310 Diseases and Injuries in Iran and its Neighboring Countries, 1990-2015 : Findings from Global Burden of Disease Study 2015

BACKGROUND: Due to significant achievements in reducing mortality and increasing life expectancy, the issue of disability from diseases and injuries, and their related interventions, has become one of the most important concerns of health-related research.METHODS: Using data obtained from the GBD 2015 study, the present report provides prevalence and years lived with disability (YLDs) of 310 disea

The Decomposition of Shared Environmental Influences on Externalizing Syndromes in the Swedish Population : A Multivariate Study

Using information from Swedish population registries, we attempt to decompose the shared environment (C) into four subcomponents: close family, family, household, and community. Among pairs differing in their genetic and geographical/household relationships, we examine three externalizing syndromes: drug abuse (DA), criminal behavior (CB), and alcohol use disorders (AUD). The best-fitting common p

The effects of baroreflex activation therapy on blood pressure and sympathetic function in patients with refractory hypertension : the rationale and design of the Nordic BAT study*

Objective: To explore the effects of baroreflex activation therapy (BAT) on hypertension in patients with treatment resistant or refractory hypertension. Methods: This investigator-initiated randomized, double-blind, 1:1 parallel-design clinical trial will include 100 patients with refractory hypertension from 6 tertiary referral hypertension centers in the Nordic countries. A Barostim Neo System

Epidemiology and time trends of distal forearm fractures in adults - a study of 11.2 million person-years in Sweden

Background: A distal forearm fracture is a very common injury causing both suffering and substantial health care costs. The incidence of this fracture type seemed to increase worldwide until the middle 1980’s, but thereafter most reports have shown stable or decreasing rates. As few large studies have been presented lately we aimed to describe recent epidemiology and time trends of distal forearm

Salt-inducible kinases in adipose tissue

Detta kallas insulinresistens och i min forskning undersöker jag hur kroppens fettvävnad fungerar för att förObesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are metabolic diseases that increase rapidly in the modern society. The underlying mechanisms are complex and involve both environmental and genetic factors. Adipose tissue is an important organ for maintaining whole body energy homeostasis. In response to nutrient overload (as observed in obesity), adipocytes become hypertrophic and dysfunctio

Association of circulating MicroRNA-124-3p levels with outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest : A substudy of a randomized clinical trial

IMPORTANCE: The value of microRNAs (miRNAs) as biomarkers has been investigated in various clinical contexts. Initial small-scale studies suggested that miRNAs might be useful indicators of outcome after cardiac arrest. OBJECTIVE: To address the prognostic value of circulating miRNAs in a large cohort of comatose patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This

A Stabilizing Switching Scheme for Multi Controller Systems

The stability of a multi-controller system is analyzed using Lyapunov theory. Stability is guaranteed by a switching strategy determined by a combination of separate Lyapunov functions for the different controllers. The behavior on sliding surfaces is analyzed using non-smooth analysis according to Filippov. Two examples illustrate the theory.
