Isotope structure of SmII as an indicator of r- vs. s-process nucleosynthesis
Aims. The isotope composition of samarium provides a previously unexploited means of determining the r- versus s-process content of e. g. metal-poor stars. The seven stable isotopes of samarium can be divided into two groups, where in one group the r- process is the dominant production mechanism, while for the second group it is the s-process that is dominant. The center-of-gravity for spectral li
No adverse events after simultaneous administration of 50 000 IU vitamin A and Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccination to normal-birth-weight newborns in Guinea-Bissau
Objective:To determine whether the combined intervention of 50 000 IU vitamin A administered together with Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination at birth was associated with adverse events, in particular bulging fontanels and adverse reactions to BCG.Subjects/Methods:From an ongoing trial, 2145 infants randomized to 50 000 IU vitamin A or placebo with BCG vaccination were recruited. Adverse ev
Joining chain-expressing and -nonexpressing B cell populations in the mouse
The diphtheria toxin A chain (DTA) was gene targeted into the Joining chain (J chain) locus to create a mouse strain selecting against J chain-expressing cells, JDTA mice. Serum immunoglobulin (Ig)M and serum IgG were reduced six to eightfold, while serum IgA was elevated 14-fold in these mice. JDTA mice were immune competent although the serum Ig response compared with wild-type mice was reduced
Fetal and perinatal risk factors for inflammatory bowel disease
Aim: To study the influence of specific factors and events during pregnancy and the perinatal period on the risk of children developing inflammatory bowel disease. Methods: Population-based national register study. Linkage between the Swedish Medical Birth Register and the Swedish Hospital Discharge Register during the period 1987 to 2000 identified 455 singleton infants who later developed inflam
Berget i backens skugga : det sociala landskapet på Kristianstadsslätten under tidig- och mellanneolitikum
This thesis is a study of the growth of the social landscape on the Kristianstad plain in the Early and Middle Neolithic. The interpretation proceeds from the character of the material remains and their geographical location. The author attempts to understand which factors lie behind the geographical division of the sites and how this landscape can have grown through time.

H-k metrics on the diffeomorphism group of the circle
Each H-k inner product, kis an element ofN, endows the diffeomorphism group of the circle with a Riemannian structure. For kgreater than or equal to1 the Riemannian exponential map is a smooth local diffeomorphism and the length-minimizing property of geodesics holds.
Immunohistochemical Distribution of Cyclic GMP-Dependent Protein Kinase-1 in Human Prostate Tissue.
Objectives: Phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors improve smooth muscle relaxation and therefore are considered for pharmacotherapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) -dependent protein kinase-1 (cGKI) has been identified as one of the downstream targets for cGMP. The aim of the present study was to evaluate, by mean
Serine protease inhibitors in the upper and lower airways
Det är allmänt känt att ökad produktion eller aktivitet av proteaser eller inaktivering och minskad proProteases and their inhibitors are implicated in the physiology and pathology of the airways. Protease inhibitors include those produced locally, such as secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI), and those produced mainly by the liver that can reach the airways via passive diffusion, such as alpha1-antitrypsin (AAT). SLPI is a significant component of the anti-neutrophil elastase shield in th

Complex formation in solutions of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes at different polyion compositions and salt content
The formation of complexes in solutions containing positively charged polyions (polycations) and a variable amount of negatively charged polyions (polyanions) has been investigated by Monte Carlo simulations. The polyions were described as flexible chains of charged hard spheres interacting through a screened Coulomb potential. The systems were analyzed in terms of cluster compositions, structure

Avsikten är däThe purpose of this thesis is to study the computer using practice within pre-school activity, or more specifically, to study aspects of meaning-making as afforded when the computer is in use in pre-school. In the study a socio-cultural perspective is used as the point of departure combined with an Ecological approach to visual perception and Positioning theory. Data was collected in three pre-sch

Pension reform in New Zealand and Sweden - A comparative analysis of path dependent reform processes
The social right of a secured income enough for subsistence in old age is an important aspect of social policy. Our objective has been to discuss public pension reform in New Zealand and Sweden. Through comparison we have revealed inherent forces fuelling as well as restricting pension reform. To better understand the political differences and counter forces an approach of “path dependency” derive
