Tomographic reconstruction with a generative adversarial network

This paper presents a deep learning algorithm for tomographic reconstruction (GANrec). The algorithm uses a generative adversarial network (GAN) to solve the inverse of the Radon transform directly. It works for independent sinograms without additional training steps. The GAN has been developed to fit the input sinogram with the model sinogram generated from the predicted reconstruction. Good qual

Organizational Hindrances to the Retention of Older Healthcare Workers

The Swedish healthcare sector is currently experiencing recruitment difficulties combined with increasing demand for healthcare services. This study accordingly seeks knowledge of the obstacles to and opportunities for retaining older employees in the Swedish healthcare sector. Results of interviews with line managers and human resource (HR) partners indicate that the informants have positive atti

Photoinduced phase segregation and degradation of perovskites revealed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Pb-based perovskite absorbers with organic (i.e., CH3NH3+) and inorganic (i.e., Cs+) cations and a halide composition of 75% Br and 25% I are investigated with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy while submitted to environmental stress factors to study their stability. Changes in chemical properties of the absorbers were monitored in ultra-high vacuum and under simulated solar, as well as, x-ray irra

A sustainable working life for all ages – The swAge-model

Background: Due to the demographic challenge in most countries it is important to consider making work life sustainable. A sustainable work life is of importance in all age groups when working life will be extended to a higher age. Aim: Towards a theoretical model with an impact on a sustainable working life for all ages, the swAge - model. Method: The theoretical model, the swAge-model, is develo

The Political Theology of Malcolm X

Malcolm X’s (or El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz) life, political and social activism, religion, and their various impacts on the Civil Rights movement in the U.S. and beyond are attracting renewed scholarly attention, more then a half a century after his assassination. His political message has reached a wide variety of audiences inspiring numerous social activist groups across the globe. A large part of

The Semiotics of Malcolm X from Harlem to Tahrir

With no ambition to provide a complete inventory, this article introducesthe reader to the ways in which Malcolm X and his legacy have been usedwithin US hip-hop music. The central argument is that US hip-hop artists, since the birth of hip-hop, have been participating in the processes ofreinventing Malcolm X and his legacy by not only casting him as a symbolof local African American resistance aga

Environmental input to the pancreatic β-cells - the role of mechanosensitive and other ion channels

Compound input from genetic predisposition, environmental factors and lifestyle lead to beta-cell dysfunction which initiates the development of type 2 diabetes. Understanding the linkage between the environmental input and gene regulatory pathways controlling beta-cell function is key for developing novel therapies against T2D. The pancreatic beta-cell is controlled by ion channels. Voltage-gated

Correspondence : Dioxin and mortality from cancer

To the Editor: The lessons that Dr. Bailar gleaned from the recent dioxin study by Fingerhut et al. of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Jan. 24 issue)1 reached far beyond, and at times contradicted, what the authors presented.2 Moreover, Bailar did not acknowledge the growing body of evidence suggesting that low-level dioxin exposure does not present a risk of cancer in hu

Occupational and other environmental factors and multiple myeloma : A population based case-control study

Epidemiological studies on the aetiology of multiple myeloma are reviewed as a background to this population based case-control study performed in an area with a high incidence of multiple myeloma. The purpose was to identify and evaluate several suspected environmental factors in relation to this disease. A total of 275 confirmed cases diagnosed in four counties in northern Sweden during four yea

Familial occurrence of hematologic malignancies and other diseases in multiple myeloma : a case-control study

In a population-based case-control study in Sweden on multiple myeloma, the occurrence of different diseases in relatives, particularly hematologic malignancies and different types of cancer, was investigated. Through a questionnaire mailed to all living subjects, i.e. cases and controls, and to the next-of-kin for deceased subjects, information was obtained on malignant and certain other diseases

Intravenous clodronate for the treatment of hypercalcaemia in breast cancer patients with bone metastases-A prospective randomised placebo-controlled multicentre study

In a double blind randomised multicentre study the effect of intravenous clodronate plus hydration was compared with placebo plus hydration in the treatment of hypercalcaemia in breast cancer patients with bone metastases. The patients were treated either with hydration plus clodronate 300 mg/day or hydration plus placebo, up to 7 days or until serum ionised calcium was below 1.4 mmol/l. 25 patien

New data on γ→p→→ηp with polarized photons and protons and their implications for N → Nη decays

The polarization observables T,E,P,H, and G in photoproduction of η mesons off protons are measured for photon energies from threshold to W=2400 MeV (T), 2280 MeV (E), 1620 MeV (P,H), or 1820 MeV (G), covering nearly the full solid angle. The data are compared to predictions from the SAID, MAID, JüBo, and BnGa partial-wave analyses. A refit within the BnGa approach including further data yields pr
