Fearing separation from capitalist paternity : A psychosocial analysis of revanchist anti-gender consumer activism against Disney

Drawing on political readings of Freud, this paper probes the anxieties and fears driving anti-gender consumer activism, an emerging form of consumer politics in which a cisheteronormative subject defends his consumer privileges in the name of “the family.” We examine how American anti-gender activists opposed Disney’s shift from its conservative, family-oriented brand image. We argue that this caDrawing on political readings of Freud, this paper probes the anxieties and fears driving anti-gender consumer activism, an emerging form of consumer politics in which a cisheteronormative subject defends his consumer privileges in the name of “the family.” We examine how American anti-gender activists opposed Disney’s shift from its conservative, family-oriented brand image. Does climate anxiety help or hinder recycling?

This thesis examines the correlation between climate anxiety and the pro-environmental behavior recycling. 22 university students took part in an experiment where they sorted waste items in two categories: metal packaging and residual waste. Participants sorting efficiency and accuracy were measured for their climate anxiety and frequency of recycling surveyed. No significant correlation was found

Home heating cultures in transition : exploring material participation, norms and practices in Swedish households

Background: The transition to sustainable energy systems requires a deeper understanding of how households experience and negotiate heating practices over time. In Sweden, where residential heating remains a major source of energy use, heating systems are embedded in daily routines, shaped by evolving technologies, social norms, and material contexts. This study draws on the Energy Cultures Framew

The innovation gap: How the lack of rural innovation policies is keeping the Andean Chocó region in Ecuador dependent on extractivism

Sustainability involves not only the analysis of social-environmental systems but also the dynamics of-economic and political structures. In Ecuador, pressing environmental issues such as climate change,-biodiversity loss, and soil degradation are intricately tied to both local and global extractive economies,-including industries related to fossil fuels, minerals, and biological resources. The An

Cooperation and Competition – An evolutionary path to a social-ecological trap

It is increasingly well-established that Homo sapiens’ significant influence and success as a species are due to our ability to cooperate – solving collective action problems. The evolutionary selection for this ability can be explained by the cumulative effect of cultural technologies and practices being imitated within the group and between generations. To gain new insight into the human evoluti

Shifting Sands and Solastalgia The Emotional Political Ecology of Land Reclamation in The Maldives

Rampant land reclamation is shifting the ecological, political, and social landscape of the Maldives. While the state frames land reclamation as a remedy for land scarcity, a climate change adaptation, and as an indicator of development, these narratives conceal lived-experiences of land reclamation and the accompanying social and environmental harm. Through semi-structured interviews with Maldivi

Pawprints of Care and Resistance Exploring Prague’s Urban Nature Imaginaries through a Tabletop Role-Playing Game

Urbanisation, climate crisis, and biodiversity loss are converging pressures that demand new imaginaries of urban life. Yet mainstream approaches to urban futures remain entangled in instrumental rationality and profit-oriented logics that often exacerbate social and ecological injustice. In the under-researched context of post-socialist cities like Prague, the need to explore alternative valuatio

'She will die for this land': The role of women environmental defenders in protecting Indonesia's socio-ecological communities, and the violent repression of their anti-extractivist resistance

Extractivist projects are causing widespread socio-ecological destruction across Indonesia, impacting ecosystems, rural communities, and Indigenous ways of life. At the forefronts of socio-ecological collapse, women are increasingly taking up leadership roles in environmental activism. Simultaneously, women environmental defenders (WEDs) are experiencing a growing crisis of violent repression. Thi

On Green Capitalism’s Need for Space: A Political Ecology Exploration of Sociotechnical Imaginaries Surrounding Esrange Space Centre in the Swedish High North (Sápmi)

Employing a political ecology framework, this thesis explores Esrange Space Centre in the Swedish High North as a case for broader sociopolitical dynamics in which space infrastructure is increasingly intertwined with green transition and securitisation discourses. Through a Critical Discourse Analysis of three documents, informed by the concepts of capitalist catastrophism and sociotechnical imag

Encountering Seaweed: Life In and Beyond Macroalgae Farming Through Lived Experience of Farmers in Shandong and Fujian, China

In the past few years, macroalgae farming has surged in popularity on a global scale as a potential major contributor to carbon dioxide removal. As the world’s biggest producer of seaweed, China has actively engaged in this global effort to develop macroalgae farming as a nature-based climate solution. Amid this global enthusiasm, however, is a lack of attention to the local living worlds. This st

Exploring Individuals' Perceptions of the Sustainability Impact on Electric Car usage in Sweden

This thesis investigates how individuals in Sweden perceive the sustainability of electric car usage, using the Triple Bottom Line framework, which encompasses environmental, economic, and social dimensions. The primary aim is to gain insight into the genuine sustainability intentions of electric car users and to understand how they interpret sustainability not only in terms of environmental i

Evaluation of MODIS NDVI product in a heterogeneous urban environment using five upscaling methods and Landsat 8 product

In order to accurately assess the quality of low-resolution biogeophysical parameter products, accurate scale transformations are essential. However, different scaling models often lead to inconsistent transformation results. More worryingly, many biogeophysical parameters are not scale-invariant, such as the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), which makes the quality assessment of low-

Non-use of dentures after tooth loss is associated with elevated sodium/potassium ratios in older adults : a retrospective cohort study

Objective: An elevated sodium-to-potassium (Na/K) ratio in urine increases the risk of hypertension. Tooth loss in older adults can lead to a diminished nutritional state, including alterations in the Na/K ratio. However, the relationship between denture use and changes in the Na/K ratio among individuals with tooth loss has not been sufficiently explored. This study examined whether denture use m
