Course
Course 7.5 credits • LINC13
Teaching – spring semester of 2022
From 9 February, more teaching will be conducted on campus. During the gradual return to campus, some digital teaching will continue. Hence, it is very important that you pay attention to information from your teacher and potential changes in your schedule in Canvas and/or TimeEdit.
In this course the student will get introduced to general principles and parameters which characterise feasible phonetic systems in human languages.
Principles which control phonological representations such as sound categorisation, lexical contrast and restrictions on phonetic sound sequences are studied.
The student will also discover principles which are responsible for the formation of phonological representations.
Data from various languages and language processing research is used to illustrate how sound structures – segmental and prosodic – are represented phonologically.
Practical exercises in phonological analysis make up a large part of the course.
