Course 7.5 credits • LINC11
Teaching – spring semester 2021
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect our education and most of the teaching must take place completely digitally until further notice. Pay attention to the information in the schedule and/or in Canvas – the information is continuously adjusted based on current decisions and recommendations.
In this course the student will systematically get acquainted with basic concepts of speech acoustics, such as frequency, resonance, filtering, tones and formants, using different sound illustrations.
In laboratory exercises the student will get an illustration about various acoustic and perceptual aspects of sound and train skills in the ability to interpret sound spectrograms.
Students will familiarize themselves with the relationship between the emergence of the speech signal and the reaction to it by the ears and the nervous system. Focus is equally on both: segmental and prosodic factors of spoken language and speech.
