Course
Course 30 credits • SFSH11
This programme is designed for students seeking a unique Scandinavian study abroad experience and who are interested in acquiring and developing a Swedish language skill.
Teaching – autumn semester of 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our courses and programmes. Teaching and assessment during the first half of the autumn semester 2021 will be conducted both online and on campus. From 1 November more elements will be conducted on campus – the current schedule is available on course websites and/or in Canvas.
Learning Swedish
The Swedish beginner’s language course has a rapid progression and by the end of the semester (level 4), you will be able to understand radio and television programmes on current affairs or topics of personal interest.
You will also be able to
- enter unprepared into conversation on topics that are of interest to you or pertinent to everyday life (e.g. family, hobbies, travel and current events)
- give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans
- narrate a story or relate the plot of a book or film and describe your impressions of it
- write an essay or report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view.
- To achieve this, the course is thematically organised and communicative activities are an integral part of each lesson.
The programme includes one semester of full-time studies (30 ECTS). It is given by the Centre for Languages and Literature. At the end of successfully completed studies the student will receive a transcript and certificate. For students currently studying a degree, the home university will need to approve whether the ECTS credits from the programme can be transferred to the current degree programme.
Requirements
The course requires basic eligibility for university studies, with the exception of Swedish. To show that you fulfill the requirements, you need to send in your Higher secondary school diploma and transcript. You may also need send in proof of proficiency in English (correponding to English course 6 in the Swedish upper secondary school) by means of an internationally recognised test, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or the equivalent. See English Language Requirements.
Read the information carefully at the Admission office www.universityadmissions.se about what documents you need to send in and how. Also make sure to log in to your account to check that everything has arrived.
