Course
Course 7.5 credits • FONM21
The course presents an overview of the sounds of the world's languages starting from the phonetic capabilities of man. Different aspects covered are linguistic phonetics, phonetic and phonological universals, phonetic typology, areal features, native and foreign accent. Data from a great variety of languages serve as the basis for illustrating the sounds of the world's languages, both among vowels and consonants and within prosody. Students' ability to perceive and produce "exotic" speech sounds is also trained.
