My PhD project focuses on the previously undescribed Northern Aslian language Jedek (previously referred to as Menriq Rual), spoken in the resettlement area of Sungai Rual in Kelantan, Peninsular Malaysia. The project aims at investigation of the dynamics of small-scale multilingualism and individual variation among the multilingual residents of Sungai Rual as well as grammatical description of Jedek.

My main research interests are in the areas of language documentation, bilingualism, second language acquisition, linguistic variation, language contact and the prehistory of the Austroasiatic languages.

Om forskningen

My PhD project focuses on the previously undescribed Northern Aslian language Jedek (previously referred to as Menriq Rual), spoken in the resettlement area of Sungai Rual near the Thai border in Kelantan, Peninsular Malaysia. The project aims at investigation of the dynamics of small-scale multilingualism and individual language variation among the multilingual residents of Sungai Rual, as well as grammatical description of Jedek.

My main research interests are in the areas of language documentation, bilingualism, second language acquisition, linguistic variation, language contact and the prehistory of the Austroasiatic languages.

After completing a BA in French and Indonesian linguistics at the University of New England, Australia, I wrote a bachelor thesis at Lund University in 2010 investigating grammatical aspects of second language acquisition in production and comprehension of Swedish. My MA thesis from February 2013 investigated issues of language contact in Northern Aslian linguistic prehistory.
