Join us over lunch to discuss Poetry for Sustainability! A poem has the ability to change how we see the world and how we connect to it. During this session, we will dive into two poems and discuss how poems can be used in teaching and to facilitate dialogue around sustainability.

Welcome to Poetry for Sustainability - a discussion over lunch around two poems, namely:

  1. Wallace Stevens “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird”: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45236/thirteen-ways-of-looking-at-a-blackbird
  2. Craig Santos Perez “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Glacier (after Wallace Stevens)”: https://poets.org/poem/thirteen-ways-looking-glacier-after-wallace-stevens

The event is open to all members of staff at Lund University interested in the topic, and no previous experience and no preparations are required. If you have time to look at the texts before we meet, that would be great, but the poems are short and we will digest them together over lunch so you are also welcome to join spontaneously.

The discussion will be facilitated by Ellen Turner and Barbara Barrow, Centre for Languages and Literature, Lund University.

Venue and Registration

We will meet at the restaurant "Stamstället" at Forum Medicum (lunch at own expense): https://stamstallet.se/

If you know that you are planning to join, it would be great if you can let us know so that we know approximately the size of table we need, but it is also perfectly fine to join spontaneously. Sign up by emailing: education@sustainability.lu.se or terese.thoni@cec.lu.se

About the organisers

The event is organised as part of the initiative Teaching for Sustainability, coordinated by the Sustainability Forum and the Centre for Engineering Education. Learn more about our work on our blog: https://teachingsustainability.blogg.lu.se/

We organise, inter alia, discussions around books and other texts that inspire and support the community to explore new concepts and approaches useful in your teaching practice. You're welcome to suggest articles to read, or perhaps facilitate a discussion around a book you've been itching to share with others. All ideas and contributions are welcome!
