I am interested in the relation between language, thought/consciousness and other semiotic resources or systems like gestures and pictures. In particilar in an evolutionary and developmental perspective.
I have served as president of SALC (Scandinavian Association for Language and Cognition), and am still on its board.

Currently, I am involved in the following types of research: (1) bodily mimesis and mimetic schemas as bases for language evolution and development: developmental and cross-species studies; (2) linguistic typology of space/motion, and its extensions (fictive motion and temporality); (3) methods and concepts of cognitive semiotics: a new transdisciplinary field for the study of meaning and mind.
