Hans Malmström
My affiliation with Lund University is research based. Since 2011, I have been employed by the Centre for Languages and Literature as a posdoctoral researcher. At this point, I do not have any teaching at LU.
I also hold a permanent post as Senior Lecturer of applied English Linguistics at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg.
Research
My main areas of research in English linguistics are discourse analysis, English for specific purposes, English for academic purposes and second language acquisition.
During 2009 and 2012, I worked on an project funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) concerned with how students learn English words in a parallel-language environment, i.e. when they are taught in Swedish but read course materials in English. This research continues.
Currently I have funding for a two-year postdoc project from the Swedish National Bank (RJ) to research the metadiscourse of contemporary English sermons from Anglican, Baptist and Roman-Catholic preachers. By metadiscourse I mean aspects of language used in a sermon to contribute towards the preacher's building of an interpersonal relationship with the listeners. I have also devoted considerable attention to research the words used in sermons.
