Person

I am a PhD candidate in comparative literature since September 2016. Master of Arts 2014, major in Literature–Culture–Media, with specialization in General/Scandinavian Literature.

My PhD project is concerned with Swedish erotic literature from the 19th and 20th Century. The aim of the research project is not to write an all-encompassing historical survey, but instead to focus on different kinds of principal texts and phenomena. I am interested in how and why sex and desire have been depicted, and under which circumstances. The main focus of the research is the form and themes of the texts, even if they are also understood in relation to their historical context.

Fields of interest: erotic literature, literary transgressions of boundaries, graphic novels, children’s literature, popular literature, Nikanor Teratologen, Esaias Tegnér, intermediality, sexuality, humour in literature, literature and affect.

About the research

My PhD project is concerned with Swedish erotic literature from the 19th and 20th Century. The aim of the research project is not to write an all-encompassing historical survey, but instead to focus on different kinds of principal texts and phenomena. The project is thus comprised of a handful of case studies structured in a chronological order, the first being written in 1819. I am interested in how and why sex and desire have been depicted, and under which circumstances. The main focus of the research is the form and themes of the texts, even if they are understood in relation to their historical context (with aspects such as literary circulation, freedom of the press and history of sexuality being of relevance). There is also an ambition to write a part of literary history through these case studies, to investigate if and how it is relevant to think about a tradition of Swedish erotic literature.
