English: Written Correspondence for Administrative and Technical Staff

About this course:

How do you start an e-mail in English if you don’t know the recipient’s name? Is there a special structure for meeting minutes? How can you get the right level of formality in a letter? If you write in English as part of your job, and need answers to these questions, then this course is for you. This course will consist of a total of 8 meetings (one two-hour meeting each week) over eight weeks, during which time our instructors will give you the skills and tools you need to more confidently and correctly write in English on the job, in a variety of work-related genres. You will also gain access to a range of resources which will help you even when the course is over.

Target group:

Lund University administrative and technical staff from all parts of the university whose job involves writing in English.

Workload:

Most of the work for this course will be done in the class sessions; however, you will be required to do small writing assignments between sessions and to analyse the writing you send and receive in your daily working life.

Implementation:

Please note that this course is free of charge for participants and their work units. It is expected that participants will have approval from their supervisor to take part in the course. All courses will be taught by experienced lecturers from the English Unit at Lund University, who are affiliated with the Consortium for Academic and Professional English at the university (http://www.sol.lu.se/en/subjects/engelska/consortium-for-academic-and-professional-english/).
