About this course:
Do you sometimes lack job-related words in administrative areas? In this course, you will move beyond the general English you already know towards mastery of the specialized English used in the workplace. By working with terminology in a wide range of administrative areas, such as finance and HR with our instructors, you will increase your ability to communicate in English in specialized areas to colleagues, research and teaching staff, and guests.
This course will consist of a total of 8 meetings (one two-hour meeting each week) over eight weeks. Each week, you will work with our instructors using authentic texts, and university specific word lists, relating this terminology to your own work needs. The course will be tailored as much as possible to the specific work areas of participants; in particular, in the final half of the course, participants will be divided into smaller groups based on job types to further tailor the types of terminology offered.
PLEASE NOTE: The final four sessions will be scheduled with the instructor once small groups have been formed.Target group:
Lund University administrative and technical staff from all parts of the university in a wide range of job types who are in need of specialized administrative terminology.
Workload:
Most of the work for this course will be done in the class sessions; however, you will be required to do small assignments between sessions, and to explore the terminology you see, hear, and use in your daily working life.
Implementation:
Please note that this course is free of charge for participants and their work units. It is expected that participants will have approval from their supervisor to take part in the course.
