Description

The course deals with a variety of aspects of the Swedish language and Swedish literature. Language variation and change are studied and related to social conditions. The field of study is widened by making the historical perspective central, bringing early literature and the history of the Swedish language into focus. Spoken and written texts from various periods and genres are analysed, with emphasis placed on the introduction of genres from previous historical periods. Students execute a scholarly literary or linguistic study in the form of a written report or a short essay. They are also expected to practise their skills in spoken and written Swedish in an increasing variety of communication contexts. The field of study is also widened to include the language and literature of Sweden’s Nordic neighbours.
